The Foundation
The Facing Bees Foundation is a non-profit organisation based in The Netherlands. Our focus is to promote biodiversity worldwide, through increasing of awareness, as well as the creation of action-based tools to promote biodiversity-positive livelihood generation.
Biodiversity is often a term that is hard to grasp for many, even though it is actually quite simple - let nature thrive. With the founder's wonder for the amazing world of biodiversity, and his experience in international beekeeping development with the power of bees as freely available natural resource, the foundation was created to both disseminate knowledge on biodiversity as well as supporting biodiversity-positive livelihoods like extensive beekeeping.

Honeytrail is a low-cost, immutable and inclusive honey and beeswax traceability system - built to scale.As one of the most important challenges, market access is not as inclusive as it could be. Through honeytrail, we focus on all data points a beekeeper can provide, not just the ones that are needed for legal compliance. It is with this constant source of data points that we aim to create a 'honeytrail', that allows beekeepers to provide more information about where their honey came from, through immutably logging it on a public network (Hedera).Honeytrail is not an app, but an infrastructure where 3rd parties can plug into. With funding from The Hashgraph Association and support from HiveTracks, the Honeytrail platform addresses issues of honey adulteration and authenticationZug, Switzerland, 23 May 2024 - The Facing Bees Foundation, a Netherland-based non-profit organization focusing on the promotion of biodiversity worldwide, has launched the ‘Honeytrail’ platform, a cost-effective honey traceability platform built on Hedera DLT (Decentralized Ledger Technology) and funded by The Hashgraph Association (THA), the Swiss-based organization at the forefront of global digital enablement.Honeytrail seeks to revolutionize the beekeeping industry by tackling the pervasive challenges of honey authentication and adulteration - the practice of adultering pure honey with substances such as sugar or water to increase its volume. The Facing Bees Foundation has partnered with HiveTracks to implement this solution leveraging DLT. High costs and barriers have often marginalized small-scale and technologically underserved beekeepers, especially in regions across the Global South.
